Rayna Brooks
Master Loctician . Natural Hair Stylist . Celebrity Stylist . Braider
Owner of Sekai Natural Hair Gallery, began braiding hair, for the women of the military, stationed at Vandenberg AFB (Air Force Base), in 1992. For many years thereafter, her talents progressed and evolved. Her personal natural hair journey began in 1998 with the bold decision to discontinue the use of chemicals on her hair; much to the chagrin of family, friends, and coworkers. Her mission was to learn as much as she could about how to care for her hair, in its natural state. Natural hair, sadly, was something very foreign to her. In February of 2000, she transitioned from wearing her natural hair, to Locing her hair. Through experimenting, and later, through the training and knowledge of licensed stylists, herbalists, and natural hair care specialists, she continued to add to her arsenal of knowledge. Rayna moved beyond just braiding in 1999 and has been caring for natural hair ever since. Now licensed to practice Cosmetology in the state of California, she was excited to be able to cater to the natural hair community with the opening of Sekai Natural Hair Gallery.
Realizing the connection between nutrition and natural hair, she began her studies at Clayton College of Natural Health enrolling in the Bachelor of Science in Holistic Nutrition degree program, in 2001. During her studies, she learned about the importance of nutrient rich foods, herbs, how vital hydration is for the body (and hair), and many other valuable life-giving components. Feeling as though that was not enough, she also began studying massage therapy at Touch Therapy Institute, in Encino, in 2003. Armed with a wealth of information, she felt as though everyone should learn how to live a healthy and long life. She offers her opinion and urges her clients to research the best health options.
To round out her passion for healing, she also created an artistic handmade jewelry line called the Rayna Brooks Collection. With her artistic pieces, she combines design, conductive metals, and metaphysical elements to raise its vibratory healing attributes. Rayna believes that everything that grows, and is a part of the Earth, was put here for a reason; she believes that they all have a purpose and we should use them for that purpose whenever possible.
Rayna is a firm believer in the continuation of learning and the sharing of that knowledge with others. She believes that it is never too late to learn, nor is there anything wrong with going back to learn the basics. The natural hair care community is growing by leaps and bounds and Rayna desires to facilitate the transition and, for some, journey, to loving and caring for their natural hair. She feels that we all are made exactly how we were supposed to be so we should embrace and honor it.
Sekai (meaning: one who brings laughter and joy [in the Shona tongue of South Afrika]) Natural Hair Gallery is here to offer a wholistic approach to natural hair care...welcome.
